Sunday Sketches


This is a sketch I did of an old water mill that we visited. I spent about 20 minutes on it and then copied it to watercolour it. To see more sketches please visit Sophia's Sunday Sketches.




This is the original building.


I think the watercolour spoils it and its not loose enough. Still working on getting watercolour right!!!

    Lovely sketch.... I love all the brickwork. What do you mean by copied it? Some how you put it on different paper to keep the sketch intact?

    Great sketch! I have the sketch for my fist watercolor painting ready to go but keep chickening out when it comes to the actual painting. LOL.

    It looks familiar; I wonder if I've ever been there?!
    You did a good job on those windows. I struggle keeping all those lines straight and in proportion but they are such an important part of a building like this. Love the free expression in your sketch.

    Tammie - by copying it I mean I re-drew the sketch in more detail at home and painted that one, referring to my original sketch and the photo of the mill.

    I will post the watercolour later - I preferred the sketch to be honest!

    Very lovely! I like both versions - without and with the watercolours.

    I like both versions, but am especially taken with the pencil version and how the absence of detail is used - there is a lot of white, but it works really well.
