I have heard some other debates over the past few days. I like to explore all sides when I hear controversy. If you dig into many foundations and charities I am sure there is food for thought. What matters is the kids and something being done to save them. I've been watc...Totally agree with you, Sarah. I've been watching the criticism with interest. For as many academics who are saying Africans are upset, there seem to be as many Africans saying, "Thank you for finally telling our story."<br /><br />The one thing that has come to mind over and over again as I've watched the controversy is a quote by Theodore Roosevelt......<br /><br /><br />"It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause; who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat."<br /><br />If we can remember that, perhaps we'll all try to make sure we don't just stand up as righteous critics, but that we actually do something to make this world a better place. We can all find an organization we trust to sponsor a child or contribute even a tiny bit to relief efforts in distressed areas. Some of us can adopt, others can write letters, and still others can actually go and work in the trenches providing care and hands-on relief.
