Mothers Day Shmothers Day... you can keep it...

Today, in the UK it is Mothers Day. Usually on a Sunday I would have a nice lie in, get up, read the papers, maybe go for a nice walk. Today I have had to set my alarm to get up and receive my Mothers Day gifts, eat a bacon and mushroom sandwich which still contained most of the field the mushroom was grown in ( crunchy!), wave good bye to my Man as he went to work, clear up the wreck of a kitchen/lounge/hall/bedroom, psychanalyse my children and prevent World War 3 from occurring between them.

Having emptied the dishwasher, filled the dishwasher, washed the undishwashable things, wiped the surfaces, put on 3 loads of washing, put the washing out to dry, brung the washing in, made lunch, cleaned up after lunch, swept patio, filled veg bags with soil, planted veg, swept patio again, tried to sort out arguing children, drunk wine with neighbour ( only pleasant interlude so far all day ) sorted out more arguments.... I am now on here briefly before I go downstairs to bake a cake.

Apparently Daddy said they could bake a cake today, just before he went off to work. When I said I would rather have a sit down they both went mental and told me I was a mean mother. I could turn into a very mean mother if anyone suggests repeating Mothers Day more than once a year. Once a year is once too much for me.I hate Mothers Day as it is 12 hours or more of relentless work and misery.

If you are a mum and have been taken out to lunch by your adoring family and are now sitting quietly having some "you" time... then I salute you. What is your secret and please can I come and live with you??

Phew! I'm so glad I haven't missed out on anything - I'd have run off by now. It's nice to borrow some now & again, but nicer when they go.

Our neighbours kids had a party yesterday & I had to keep the back door shut most of the day(it was either that or shout "shut uuuup" loudly over the fence)I was trying to listen to opera & read my book -not that I'm showing off or anything...

Are you allowed to take them back & ask for a kitten instead?

Oh, the idea of children is so much more romantic than the reality. Just like a new puppy, they are so cute until they bite you or poop in the floor. Unfortunantly we cannot trade them for a kitten or drop them at a shelter or put them down.

Mom always told me I was paying for my raising!

Hang in there, you are normal.

OK...I'm sorry that you had all that work to do on what should have been a special day for you...but I must chuckle at the extent of it all.

My first Mothers' Day here in the States ended up MUCH like that one...my husband and my father were supposed to plan the day for my Mom and I, and it resulted in my making my own special lunch, dessert, cleaning the entire house, purchasing and wrapping gifts for my Mom from myself, hubby, and our son...all while dealing with a very rambunctious 11 month old, and being incredibly wiped out with the then unknown pregnancy of myself with our daughter...

Needless to say, I was perturbed, angry...you name it!

Hubby did much better this last go 'round.

Now, I strongly suggest you come to my house in May for our version...I'll treat you right!

There are certainly some benefits to not being a Mum! x
