A good reason not to go to church.

Oh, and while I'm at it I just want to comment briefly on my trip to church today.I am not a church person - used to be,but lost my faith.I went with lots of 5 year olds today and I have never met a ruder, less"Christian" priest than the one who showed us around. The tone of that person's voice when talking to the children was shocking, full of anger and absolutely no understanding or care.If anything was going to stop those kids going to church it was that priest.I wouldn't blame them if they never stepped inside a church again in their lives. And I didn't have the guts to say anything. My innate respect for someone in the cloth prevented me from saying anything, but part of me wishes I had. What gives them the right to speak to anyone, never mind children, like that?I think Jesus would have a word or two to say...

That makes me SO mad...I just get so frustrated when people who are supposed to be there to guide and teach and help us in our Faith journeys are like that...

I know that everyone has bad days, but really...talking down to 5 year olds and being rude?

I'd say you did the right thing in not causing a scene, but I'd definitely say something about it to SOMEONE at the Church you visited...

Yes, it frustrates me too.A lot of people who read/comment on my blog are Christians and I have heard nothing but good, tolerance and love from them/you.I suppose you are always going to find the odd bad apple in the barrell.I am not going to mention anything to the church because I don't think they would take me seriously and I would feel embarrassed criticising a vicar.

You restore my faith in good people though!S

Sarah, your last sentence is right on the money. I totally think Jesus would say something. A minister I heard once talked in a sermon about how we humans tend to screw things up in terms of placing our own rules and things, mucking up true Christianity and making it into an ugly religion. He said he imagined God up in Heaven looking down and saying, "Kids, you're missing the point!" I think maybe He was doing that while that priest was talking with the kiddos in your care.

I'm sorry somebody who claims to follow Jesus reflected Him so poorly. Makes me want to just cuddle those kids right up, and love on them. Makes me want to hug you too. =)

I hope you have a better day today. Bless you for caring for those children and for having a sensitive and kind heart.
