Audition nerves.Did they get it or not??Please someone let me out of my misery!!!

I am so nervous today. My tummy is bulging with butterflies and I feel sick. The reason for this? Well.... yesterday my boys both went for an audition. They have never done anything like this before, but they both expressed a desire to act... They don't go to drama classes and have only done school plays because, to be honest, their sport has always taken priority and it clashes with local drama school timings, but they were really keen, especially my youngest.

I know a couple of people who have children represented by an agency and I found out the agency contact details.I called them and explained the situation and they asked me to send photos of both boys. They also said that it was very unlikely that they would see them as things were quiet and they weren't taking people on. Anyway, about 30 minutes after I had sent their photos through I got an e-mail saying that they wanted to see both of them for auditions.

I was quite flabbergasted, but we found a couple of extracts from Michael Morpurgo books that were a minute long and they learned them. Now I am not a showbiz mum. I have no experience of this and I didn't know what sort of thing they should do for the audition. I called a friend who is an actor and asked his advice, but really we were doing this on a wing and a prayer...

We turned up yesterday for the audition and the boys did their best. They both remembered their parts, but as we left and the lady told us that she would let us know, my heart sank.I just got bad vibes from her and I felt gutted for the boys.My parental instincts - sadly lacking for most of the time - kicked in and I desperately want them to get in, especially son#2 who I think has something really special...

It made me think... how do proper actors do this day after day, week after week?? How can they bear the rejection? The boys seem chilled about the whole thing. They realise that their chances of getting in are slim and  they have moved onto think about other things, like football and food and telly. But I am left mulling everything over... Did I choose the right audition pieces, did I say the right things to the lady, should I have ever started this whole thing in the first place??

Now I just want to hear the result. Did they get in - in which case, great and we can move forward - or did they not - in which case we can forget about it and move forward... In the mean time... they are chilled and I have no nails left. I suppose that's the best way round. Its like taking a thespian bullet for my kids.... God, but I'm a good mum...

Ooo, you've got me on tenter hooks now! You should be writing cliff hangers for soap operas! What an interesting experience, one which would have left me a jelly wreck of nerves and excitement. Glad to hear your boys took it all in their stride and wishing them the best of luck! Hope you're not left waiting too long!

Keeping fingers crossed that the boys made it. But if they did not it sounds like they have a good attitude and every step you take is a learning experience so is a positive and practice makes perfect.

No matter the outcome, it is a wonderful experience you have had.

Would you really want them in a professional acting career where they would not have time to be children?

I agree with you - God, but you are a good mum!

How fun for you and the boys. LEave those nails alone. They'll make it or not and whatever happens you've still got two darling little boys.

Blessings. Barb

Good luck, I hope you hear something soon! My daughter also wants to be an actress and modelled down a catwalk in the middle of a shopping centre, in the hope of getting a contract. She didn't make it but her attitude was something to be proud of. She took it on the chin and said she had fun anyway. Aren't the kids of today filled with such confidence? I've got my fingers crossed for your boys!
