Stupid Jobsworth Rudeness ...

I am attending a course at the moment and am off work for a little while so that I can go to said course. Yesterday I, and the other people on this course, were sent home because of various problems, but we were told to phone back later to check an answer machine message which would tell us whether or not to come in today.

Well ... the answer machine wasn't working so being the good girl I am I went in anyway today only to be told the course was not on again and I should phone back later for more information. This I did ... not to the answer machine number, but to the office. The woman I spoke to there was soooooo rude. I can't even call her a lady. She spoke to me as though I was an idiot.

Now, its not my fault that the place she works is a shambles. Its not my fault that I phoned her for information. I drove 26 miles and paid a full day's parking for nothing this morning - all because I thought it was the right thing to do. I was told to phone her at a specific time and I did.

Its a good thing that I am a person who can bite my tongue and stop myself from being rude right back to her because if I wasn't I would have told her exactly what I thought of her, her stupid course and the chaotic system run by incompetent idiots.

There. Fortunately for her and probably me I simply thanked her for her time and promised to phone back later to the answer phone message. I shall be filling in the feedback sheet enthusiastically ...

I think you're wrong for not saying anything. Nothing ever gets changed if people don't complain and this rude bully (who is representing the college) will carry on as before.

You are doping nobody any favours by saying nothing and should write this all down in an email which you send to the highest person you can. Calmly and very politely explain everything that happened and how you inconvenienced yourself by their incompetence and let them know that they were unprofessional and their systems need to change.

Things will never get better if people just bite their tongues. Write it in the feedback sheet as well. It's very important to complain.

Yes - you're right Urban Cynic.I was so surprised by her attitude at the time that I was left rather speechless and she got rid of me very rapidly.I plan on writing and telling the powers that be exactly what I think of her behaviour. Sadly I doubt if my letter will have much effect, but if I don't write I will definitely have no right to complain.I understand that she was under pressure at the time, but it doesn't take much to listen and be polite does it? I think that behaviour like hers is allowed to go unchecked because she deals with people on a temporary basis, passing through her organisation and then never dealing with her again.People get angry and then move on because they don't think her behaviour will change.I plan on making a complaint. Manners cost nothing. I am just glad that I did not get into an argument on the phone - I remained calm and polite throughout our conversation and in my mind I emerge the better person.I believe in choosing the time place and nature of my battles and this one will take place, but in a way which will have the most effect hopefully. Well done Sarah for remaining calm with dignity, I would have done the same. It's so annoying when someone is rude and you're so surprised and shocked by it that you can't react there and then. I'm getting better at dealing with rude idiots though, and tend to use the calm, caring and polite approach. Sometimes even asking them in a very pleasant manner if they realsie that they're being obnoxious! This usually irritates them even more but makes me feel better. Anyway Sarah what comes around goes around, so you carry on being your lovely self and sod her !! xx
