Now that's why she likes Pete Doherty...

I don't know about you, but I am not a big music officianado. I like all sorts of stuff, but don't go to gigs and all that palaver. I was really lucky, however to go to the Live8 concert in Hyde Park. It was fantastic and I have loads of great memories. I danced and sang all day and all night. One of the memories was of Pete Doherty coming on stage and singing with Elton John.

I have to admit, I had no idea who he was, but it was pretty obvious that he was stoned out of his head. He couldn't remember the lyrics and I wondered why he was even on the stage. Durrrr.... Yes, you can see that I am not a trendy young thing. Since then I've seen him on the news...... going out with Kate Moss, getting arrested for drugs offences, blah, blah, blah.

I couldn't understand what the big deal was about him. Until last night. Middle class and dull I may be, but last night when I saw him perform on the Jonathon Ross show I finally understood. He stood like a little boy lost and started to play his guitar. It was beautiful. A song that he had written. Beautiful song, angelic voice. And then in his interview, he was funny and shy, intelligent and self deprecating. Big eyes, floppy hair, musical genius. Of course people love him. He's what rock stars are supposed to be.

I've put this video of him on. Apologies for the F word in the title. And I have to say that on the tv last night the song was better. But maybe you will get a glimpse of what I mean. In the meantime, I'm off to I-Tunes to but his album.....

I'm not sure how I stumbled across your blog, but I feel I should comment.
I happened to watch Pete Doherty on Jonathan Ross via YouTube (I live in the US) and I'd have to agree with you. Not just because I'm a fan of him and his music. He's notorious for his antics and his relationship with Kate Moss, but his innocence is somewhat captivating. I loved the way you described him; (I quote)

"He stood like a little boy lost and started to play his guitar. It was beautiful. A song that he had written. Beautiful song, angelic voice. And then in his interview, he was funny and shy, intelligent and self deprecating. Big eyes, floppy hair, musical genius. Of course people love him. He's what rock stars are supposed to be."

I couldn't have pinpointed it better myself. :)

Oh i am just so delighted to read your very positive blog on Pete Doherty. I am so very sadened as every blog i ever read about him is so negative and very scalding. You have hit the nail on the head with Peter and i can only hope that by watching him on the Jonathan Ross show that other people will change their minds about him now. He is a real misunderstood charming humble gentlemen and a legend in my eyes.
Thank you.

AHHH im so happy to read your blog, i was the same as you a few years ago- i didnt hate pete but i just didnt understand how people worshiped what i saw to be a junkie. Then i discovered the libertines, babyshambles and best of all pete on his own. I fell in love :) I'm now a pete obsessive and do feel a bit protective towards him so it really upsets me reading scathing blogs and articles about him.

Something that i think you'll really like is a song called "for lovers" its by pete and "wolfman" and you can get it on itunes. i think you'll LOVE IT !

Anyway I just wanted to say that its nice to see that even with all the bad press pete gets he can still change peoples opinions.

Thanks for your comments Angela and Jen! I am happy to say that I downloaded " For Lovers " yesterday and Yes, I do think its lovely !! I also found a site which reproduced some of Pete Doherty's journals. Excellent ! He is a very interesting writer, experimenting with all sorts of styles. Obviously a very gifted man. S
