Secret housewife goes geocaching.

I have discovered a new sport/activity/obsession. Its called geocaching. I discovered it by accident, after reading another runner's blog. I looked up the site http://www.geocaching.com and I was hooked. Having put in my postcode I was amazed when I discovered that there were absolutely dozens of hidden caches within a couple of miles of my house.

A cache is hidden, ( usually a weather proof box ) with some sort of treasure inside, along with a log book for you to sign and maybe a prize. You choose from the website which cache you want to hunt, note down the coordinates and off you go. I have to add at this point that you need a GPS like a Garmin that I use for running or a sat nav.

My Garmin is amazing - like a watch, but it tells you how far you have gone, how fast, how high. And if you put in coordinates it will show you which way to walk and how close you are. Tomorrow I am going geocaching with my 2 boys, my 2 nephews and my sister in law. We are on the hunt for some 2 inch plastic soldiers that will lead us, by various clues to the treasure box. It certainly makes going for a walk rather more interesting and I am certainly looking at hollow trees and hedgerows with a beadier eye !!

If I start talking about wearing camouflage paint and army gear, please give me a shake...

wonder how you put the coordinates into the garmin? i guess the instruction book would be a great place to start looking for that answer. ( I hate those things)
