As an Englishwoman I don't think I have ever felt such excitement over the election of a foreign politician. I have been reading articles and watching the tv coverage with much interest. When I woke up on Wednesday morning I felt a real spurt of excitement when I remembered that today we would find out who had won the election to be President of the USA.
Time will tell just what sort of a President Barack Obama will turn out to be, but so far he has made me feel rather more confident than I have been with President George W Bush. Obama seems to be unruffled, elegant, honest... he speaks eloquently, with the quiet confidence of a man made for this position. When McCain wanted to cancel the debate because of the financial crisis Obama stood strong and McCain ended up following. Obama seems to know his own mind and his own destiny.
I like that he took time to visit his dying Grandmother and that he was not ashamed to let a tear fall. I like the way he trick or treated with his daughter. I know that he is surrounded by a massive PR machine, but my gut instinct is to trust him... something I have not been able to do with President Bush.
Time will tell how he will fare in this incredibly important job and I hope beyond hope that he is kept safe from those who would do him harm. I sense the optimism flowing from over the ocean... the hope for a new beginning. I hope that he fulfills all our expectations.

Wonderful insight! I, too, wonder how we will fare. I am comfortable with Obama and tend to believe he can and will make a difference. As with politicians in the past, we will have to wait and see.
I am pleased to see color was not an issue. Maybe Americans are growing.

I just came across this post when visiting your blog for Skywatch (July 2009). I wrote a blog post, too, on 11/8/08, called Hope Wins (http://zeesgowest.blogspot.com/2008/11/hope-wins-how-we-heard-news-in-reddest.html) about hearing the news while in the hospital in a part of New Mexico where [other] people were very anti-Obama.
I had tears streaming down my face (with joy) although the nurses came running because they thought I was in some pain!!
