Lemon drizzle cake and lots more snow....

My wish came true.... another day of snow and slumber. I was up and ready for work at 7am when the phone call came that school was shut today, so I went back to bed. Lovely. For those of you out there in warmer climes ( wearing shorts, no less!) I can tell you that when its snowing outside at 7am, bed is the best place to be.

I awoke, much revived, at 9.30 and wandered downstairs to make porridge. The boys were on course for a world record amount of time spent on the Wii and I was in the running for worst/laziest parent on earth. I have tried to redeem myself with copious amounts of baking and general cosiness the rest of the day.... I baked lemon drizzle cake ( yum, yum ) and made toad in the hole with rich red wine onion gravy. But I think that I could still probably find myself reported to the authorities for malpractice. Still, isn't part of parenting teaching them independence and life skills ?

I think that they learned a valuable lesson today in how to cope if mummy is in bed. Son #1 even made himself noodles for lunch... ( I hasten to add that I was around at the time )

My plan to run has been slightly foiled by the extreme slushiness of the aforementioned snow. There is somehow not quite the same glee to be enjoyed by running ankle deep in icy grey gruel. Still, apparently its due to freeze tonight so maybe tomorrow I could go over the fields.

Another brilliant by product of all this winter weather is the cancellation of football.... practises and matches. Yeeeehaaaaa!!! There is nothing that quite cheers me up like an e-mail to say that Football is cancelled. Yes, life is wonderful at the moment.... paid days off work, no football, no tennis and lots of cake. I really will have to run soon...

You're so lucky; we had one measly day of snow & one day off work - rubbish. It'slovely being by the sea but we miss out on the 'treacherous'snowed-in perks.

I'm still wearing shorts...and while I'm enjoying soaking in the warmth of the sun, and the fresh air blowing through my house this afternoon, I'd much rather be planning to go snowshoeing, or taking the kids up to one of the resorts that offers dog sled rides for cheap...blast this spring weather!
