Don Juan, Byron and the Women poets.... only slightly less dull than beige.

I am taking a break. Not from anything major... just from this bloody essay on Byron. I will be so glad when it and this module is over.I have to compare a section of Don Juan with a poem by either Charlotte Dacre, Charlotte Bury or Laetitia Elizabeth Landon.I quite enjoy reading the Byron, although it is way down in my " List of good things to read in the bath" and as for the women poets? Well, if I never read them again it would not cause me to lose sleep shall we say. But, in an analysis you can't really say that can you?

Can you imagine? "Don Juan is only slightly less irritating and dull because of his use of bathos in the last two verses of ottava rima. The women poets wrote insipid drivel because of their position in society and the Victorian obsession with sensibility..." blah, blah, bleuch!!

My apologies to those of you who like this sort of thing and who probably know a darn sight more about it than I do, but I have just spent an hour gazing, or should I say glazing over 11 stanzas, slowly losing the will to live.Yes, there are many people in the world who, at this moment in time have it a lot worse than me... but I am sure there are not many who would actually choose, never mind have paid to study this stuff.Groan...

I am now off for a walk to pick my son up from school. Hopefully when I come back I will be inspired. Maybe, when I return I will find an e-mail from my tutor telling me that this asignment has been cancelled due to lack of interest and we can all move on to The Colour Purple.Hmmmm.....

I remember when I did my introduction to the humanities OU course; I was fine when we were studying Gladiators, but not so keen when we were covering something I held no interest for - it's hard to focus when you could care less!

Keep going though as you'll be glad when you've completed it. x

LOL! I am bored to tears by the Women poets and Byron. It is a personal failing of mine.

We must have all the input to know for sure what we really enjoy.
