I went down to my allotment for the first time in ages yesterday. My Man and I had a good hour or so digging. It doesn't look as though we have done anything in the photo below, but I can assure you that the roots we dug up were mighty!!
I was surprised and rather amazed that the garlic and onions I planted in November are beginning to look pretty good and I spent some time weeding. At the moment there are not many weeds about, but before long they will be exploding through the soil like mad.
At the moment I am trying to get the lady from the council to come through with her promise and clear all the rubbish we have dug out. One of the conditions on which I took over the plot was that she arranged to have the massive amounts of rubbish removed. We have kept to our side of the bargain, but she is wavering on hers. I know money is tight, but she did promise to remove it. How can we completely cultivate our plot with all this on it??
We have moved it all to one side, but can't move it anywhere else as it would encroach on other peoples' gardens. The weather at the moment is pretty rainy and we can't do too much, but I have lots of plans for compost heaps, a shed, raised beds, gravel pathways and more. I really want to see a big difference when our first year is up in August. As it is I think we have done well to go from this...
