For Sally

Now please don't be offended by this post. I have just had an e-mail from my good friend M and I have put her fund raising page on here.

Let me explain. As I grew up my mum and dad were best friends with another couple. They had 2 children of a similar age to us and we were like cousins. We went on holidays together, we played, we had fun. Life together was great. We have always stayed close. They are our extended family.

M's husband was taken by cancer some 20 years ago now. And then Sally, her daughter, and my friend fell ill with breast cancer. She was in her early 30's and a mum to 2 young children. She was, by now, living in America with her husband and kids. She fought and fought and fought. But she lost that fight 2 years ago. I couldn't quite believe that she was gone. It seemed impossible that the sparky redhead whom I had known forever and who was younger than me was dead. I was honoured to be asked to speak at her funeral and it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. But not a fraction as hard as that day was for her mum and husband and children.

So, 2 years on her mum is doing a sponsored walk to raise money for Cancer Research. Not an easy thing as she broke her neck about 4 years ago and struggles with the pain of it.

I have put up her fundraising site so as many people as possible can sponsor her to reach her target. Please don't feel uncomfortable about this. I don't want anyone to feel obliged and I promise that this is not some strange money making scheme that I have dreamed up. Maybe you could just stop and think for a minute. We all know people, friends, family, who are affected by this illness and maybe, if you don't feel comfortable donating here, maybe you could give to a charity nearer you. And together, one day, we can stop this disease.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi Sarah, it's been a while... Sorry...
My future mother-in-law has been operated from breast cancer. I can't donate anything right now because my financial situation's not up to it but as soon as I can, I will.
Hope you are okay.

Hi Margot. I'm so glad that you are back. I missed you. I have been worried about putting this fund raiser on here as I don't want people to get the wrong idea. Sally meant a lot to me and I thought that maybe it wouldn't hurt to put it on here, but I was still worried. I hope that your mother-in-law to be is ok. Please don't worry about donating. We all can do our own thing in all sorts of ways. I think that this post will be more about getting people's attention and maybe getting them to do stuff in their own areas. Take care. x

I wish I could donate to every site, but I can't this month. I have book marked this for a donation later this spring. Wishing her family all the best love and care.
