My house is cold... unwarmed by either poetry or central heating...

I have escaped from my kitchen table and the poetry of Helen Maria Williams to revisit the 21st Century. My hands are icy cold from sitting and studying in my cold house. Not even the subject matter has warmed me today, although, to be honest I don't think it would warm my heart on the brightest August day.My central heating is blasting away from every radiator, but I am cold, cold, cold!

When I have satisfied my need for technology I shall put on my thickest cardigan and go make myself a steaming mug of coffee.Perhaps then I will warm to my poetry.I am trying hard, but the Romantic poets do not do it for me.I am having to analyse a poem by Helen Maria Williams,( To Dr Moore, in reply to a poetic epistle ) and although I am enjoying it more than the first few times I read it... I still don't love it.Call me a heathen if you will, but the likes of Byron, Keats and Shelley make my eyes glaze over.

I have an exam in June for which I need to study these chaps, but every time I pick up my course books the words just blur and dance before me...And not in a good way...

Ah well... its onto Literature and gender next - hopefully that will be more my cup of tea. Mmmmm.... tea. Time for a cuppa!!

It can be difficult when you have to study something that doesn't move or excite you - I found that reading an article by someone describing why they love it sometimes makes you look at it a different way... it might help.

I feel your pain about the cold though - it's brass monkeys!

I fell your pain, really! I am keeping my house at 15 degrees C to keep my heating bill down. It is also cold! I found that sitting with a hot cuppa helps immensely!

Hope you get warm soon! I've spent days in flannel pajamas, wrapped in blankets & wolly socks, sitting on my heating pad lately.

And I will not call you a heathen. Poetry & I are not close friends. I'm a very literal person & don't do well picking prose apart. Good luck with it!

And they wrote that poetry with no central heat! Bundle up and stay warm, it will be eight degrees F tonight in Arkansas.
