America's Next Top Model versus Scunthorpe Rovers.

My family of 2 boys and a husband breathed a collective groan tonight as I insisted that the new series of America's Next Top Model be taped. Why they are groaning I really don't know - its not as though I make them watch my telly.

Right now I am enjoying the thrills of ANTM ( see above ), X Factor, Strictly, Downton Abbey, Country House Rescue and 71 Degrees North. Yes, I know. None of them are exactly intellectual fodder, but who cares?? I think I deserve a few hours of delicious escapism each week. Especially as I wait until I am alone to watch them - apart from X Factor which is weekend family viewing with a compulsory watching clause.

And, let's face it, in a family of the masculine orientation I am usually surrounded by nothing more stimulating than Match of the Day and Fifa 12 on the X Box. If they knew the boredom I had to cope with on a daily basis when nothing but football, football, football is on the telly ... well ...

I reckon I am a pretty tolerant girl and I enjoy sport on the telly, but given the choice between some sweaty team from Outer Mongolia playing Scunthorpe Rovers and the dulcet tones of Tyra Banks discussing bone structure and the relative merits of the Smeyes ( if you watch ANTP you'll understand ) then for me its Tyra every time.

Ah, it's so refreshing to come here for a dose of plain girl talk. Sometimes we females just need to be all girl. And Tyra's picture makes me want to go out and buy a new lip gloss to wear while I'm pulling weeds in the garden or playing trucks with my toddler. =)

I hope you are having a lovely week and enjoying the harvest of your labors.

p.s. I read your previous post. If you have time after the course is over, one of my favorite children's books is a Murder for Her Majesty by Beth Hilgartner. It is set in Elizabethan times and is about a little girl who finds herself befriended by some boys in the cathedral choir after she is orphaned. It is an excellent and captivating book. My students, boys and girls alike, loved it and requested it as their year-end reading gift. I like it so much I still read it every year just for me.

Have a great week!

I love ANTM ("Smize with your eyes girls") but I think I might have seen this cycle.

You can watch it on YouTube in 10 minute snippets which isn't as good as watching the whole episode in one go, but you get to see it early!
