Choosing the perfect pillow.

My pillows are currently lying on my bed in a state of pathetic flatness. Their limp apathy is something that is beginning to offend me and I am plan to rectify the situation.

I have always been ... I am a little reluctant to admit this ... a tad on the tight side when it comes to spending money on such things as pillows. Cheap is good has always been my motto. However, the other day when I sauntered into the bedding department of John Lewis I entered a world of pillow luxury that I never knew existed.

For a woman who had always gone with the synthetic, bouncy and unfluffable cheapest, the John Lewis offerings were a revelation. Did you know that a person can buy pillows fashioned from Siberian goose down? Pillows of soft feather middles surrounded by the down of a million geese, enveloped in soft, cool, silky cotton?

Yes? No? Well I didn't ... It would seem that the sky is the limit when it comes to the world of luxury pillows. I have been reading reviews of people sleeping the sleep of the enchanted upon them and you know what? I want that fairy tale night of luxurious sleep. I want to feel the Siberian softness of snow goose caressing my head ...

My only hesitation is the price. Can I really think of parting with large chunks of my hard earned cash just for a pillow?? What do you think? They are from £30 upwards... each ... Can I justify them? Am I being sucked in by the evil of the consumer world? The well worn phrase of " I just want them" whirls around my head ...

I may just wander to John Lewis again today and stand by the pillow section ... stroking them ...

Update!!
Reader ... I could resist no longer ... I am now the happy owner of Siberian goose down pillows and can report that I slept the sleep of the pampered last night. With one night of decent pillow sleeping in my life I can definitely recommend it. x

Nice pillows really do make the difference. I just replaced the top ones and bought one a month over 2 months to spread the cost out. You spend a third of the day in bed so it's worth the cost

A good pillow lasts a long time so divide the years of pleasure into the price...you'll find it's not expensive at all.

We use to make our own...from chicken down. Also have had made feather beds from my grandmother.

I always buy good pillows, but always wait until the January sales. I buy inexpensive cotton sheets, but always splurge on the pillow.

Good - I'm glad you bought them!! We are entitled to a little bit of luxury in our lives and you will enjoy them!

I am a little shocked at myself that it has taken so long to buy them! I am now considering Egyptian cotton sheets and possibly bathing in asses milk ...

I meant to leave a comment about your pillows but must have been distracted. Since reading it, I decided to just for one night to use my extra special good guests pillows. Just one night! Which has stretched to every night since. Never mind, I should have time to save more more good pillows before my next guests arrive. After all, I told myself it is a bit wasteful to just have them sitting there never used - wouldn't anyone agree?

Great post! This brings up an interesting topic-I completely understand where you are coming from! I used to feel the same way until I discovered Goose Down Pillows! I swear by them and I will never spend my money on any other pillows! They are fantastic!
